Traditional supplementary ways of increasing practical skills of HEI students according to requirements of the working life are seen as internships and technical field trips. Internships are expected to be mediator that enables to meet students and enterprises both to start a relation and develop connection between company and students. On the other side, for enterprises, internship is an opportunity to find out skilled students and to train students according to their particular needs. Competitiveness of the small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) directly depends to having qualified workforce OTMET project is based on three pillars: First one is developing a work based learning (WBL) model for higher education institutions and adapting relevant lectures appropriate to on-job training activities, second one is developing a 'training of facilitator' programme to increase efficiency of on-job training activities and the third one is developing an e-platform to use as training mediator and develop materials for e-platform. Work based learning is a rather new approach to enable students to learn working environment and to be skilled according to needs of enterprises. However, both HE institutions and enterprises, especially SMEs, need to be prepared for on-job training activities in order to not to face same problems that are faced at internship activities. SMEs should be trained about how to train students during on-job training periods. As a main result of OTMET project it is expected to create awareness on all participants and relevant stakeholders about the importance of collaboration between university and industry to increase the skills and employability of HE students. OTMET project partnership consists of 10 partners from six countries: Turkey (5 partners), Portugal, Lithuania, Italy, Greece and Estonia (all 1 partner). OTMET project is conducted under Erasmus+, EU programme for education, training, youth and sport. Contact person: Irma Bagdonienė |
