Tech-Park Kaunas has joined the Interreg BSR programme’s project "Circular Spaces – Circular Economy maker spaces" and its key activities will help to transfer circular maker space experiences to the startups. On the 14th and 15th of August, the Park’s team met with the international project partners in Ventspils, Latvia. During the two-day meeting, the partners took part in various workshops and visited the Ventspils maker space RADE and the company Azeron.
"For startup teams developing engineering solutions, it's crucial to build a working prototype with market potential as quickly as possible. It requires not only dedicated space, equipment, and materials but also practices, which in today's world increasingly integrate the principles of the circular economy. “Circular Spaces” initiative is designed for this purpose, and we are delighted to be able to share our international experience with the local maker space communities," says Živilė Paužaitė, Head of Quality at Tech-Park Kaunas and the project's coordinator in Lithuania.
Valmiera County Council organized a workshop ‘Improving physical maker spaces. This is one of the main objectives of the project, which is why the workshop included talking about a guideline that would contain a description of ‘What is the circular economy and its importance in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR)’, ‘What are circular maker spaces and their role in the business environment in the BSR’, ‘How to develop circular maker space step by step’.
Meeting hosts Foundation ‘Ventspils High Technology Park’ held a workshop on ‘Digital circular collaboration tool’ which is, too, a key objective of the project. This digital tool will include such functionality as users (makers, suppliers), a forum for stakeholders in the circular economy (tips and advice from other users of the tool), digital guidelines and a marketplace of products and supplies.
"These workshops were a great opportunity to clarify the next steps and to discuss specific tasks for each partner. The initiative brings together representatives of organisations and workshops promoting entrepreneurship from Lithuania, Latvia, Denmark, Norway and Germany", summarises Vaiva Kelmelytė, Director of Operations at Tech Park-Kaunas.
