In collaboration with international partners, Tech-Park Kaunas has become a member of the newly established the Organisation for Defence Innovation in the Nordics (ODIN). On 26 February, an official Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Riihimäki, Finland.
This strategic step strengthens Lithuania's position in the Nordic and Baltic defence sector and creates new opportunities for regional enterprises and research institutions to develop dual-use innovations.
“We are delighted to join this ambitious international network. This initiative allows our startups and companies to participate in international projects and helps them forge significant connections with key players in the defence sector across the Nordic and Baltic regions,” said Paulius Nezabitauskas, Director of Tech-Park Kaunas.
The ODIN network unites approximately 20 organisations from Lithuania, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, which will collaborate in the development, testing, and commercialisation of cutting-edge defence technologies. Among the founding members of this network are the regional defence network DEFINE, coordinated by the City of Riihimäki in Finland, Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK), Millog Oy, and Sako Oy.
“Closer cooperation will not only enhance the defence innovation ecosystem but also open up new funding sources and global markets for our region’s technology developers,” stated Teemu Seppälä, Technology and Innovation Director for the City of Riihimäki.
One of ODIN’s primary objectives is to promote the advancement and application of dual-use technologies (for both civilian and military purposes) across various industries. These innovations provide new export opportunities and accelerate the commercialisation of cutting-edge technologies.
“Collaboration with ODIN network partners will strengthen our region’s position in the international market and enable the creation of technologies that contribute to the security and competitiveness of the entire region,” emphasised Tomas Černevičius, Project Expert at Tech-Park Kaunas.
In addition to DEFINE, HAMK, Millog, Sako, Tech-Park Kaunas, the memorandum of understanding was signed by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd and Digital Defence Ecosystem (DDE) from Finland, Milrem Robotics from Estonia, National Defence Technology Centre from Denmark, Vinnova from Sweden, and Kongsberg Innovation from Norway.
